Every one of these is great or good for some people.

Just not for me

Side by side

Checked in August 2026 against each product's own documentation. If I've got something wrong or out of date, tell me and I'll fix it — these are all actively developed and I'd rather be corrected than be wrong on my own website.

The long version

One page each, and each one starts with what that tool does better than mine.

vs AltTab

Free · Pro $9.99 · open source

The best window switcher on the Mac, and it isn't close. If you switch by looking, stop reading and go get AltTab. It just can't see inside your browser, and it can't move anything between displays.

Does more than this app ever will, and covers far more browsers. But switching and moving are separate commands with separate rankings, and neither one knows what project you're in.

Genuinely great fuzzy search and the Sidebar is something I still miss. It shows its panel on every display at once — thoughtful — but it never moves a window to one.

The closest thing to this app that already exists — apps, windows and tabs, with search. Twenty years of polish behind it. Where we part company is ranking and displays.

rcmd

Hold right-⌘ and press a letter to jump to an app. Beautifully fast if you think in apps. That's the part I couldn't make work — I don't think in apps.

Alfred

Free · Powerpack £34

A launcher with workflows that can search browser tabs. Enormously capable, and window switching has never been what it's for.

Mission Control

Free, already installed

Fine when you have eight windows and a moment to look. The problem is that it's a place you go, not something you type at.

You should probably use something else if…

You switch visually. If you recognise windows by their contents rather than their names, AltTab's thumbnails beat any text list, including this one. It's free.

You live in Arc, Brave, Firefox or Edge. Tab reading here covers Chrome and Safari and nothing else yet. Raycast covers nearly everything.

You already pay for Raycast. You have most of this in pieces already. The pieces don't share a ranking, which is the whole argument here — but that may not be worth ten dollars to you, and I'd rather say so now than take it and find out later.

One window per app, one display. Then ⌘ Tab is genuinely fine and none of us have anything to sell you.

No account, no sign-in. macOS 14+, Apple Silicon & Intel. 2.2 MB.
